Motorists faced significant delays at the Dartford Crossing today (March 31) after a crash in the tunnel forced the closure of two lanes on the M25 anticlockwise.
The incident occurred earlier today, leading to a brief closure of the left-hand tunnel and causing heavy congestion. Traffic was backed up to junction 2 (A2 Darenth Interchange) as vehicles were diverted and lanes remained closed for some time.
Lanes Reopened but Delays Persist
By around 12:33 pm, All lanes had reopened, but residual queuing traffic persisted on the M25 anticlockwise at junction 1a (A206 Dartford Tunnel). Congestion continued to impact the northbound route, with delays gradually easing.
The situation improved further by 1:05 pm, with most delays clearing after the tunnel fully reopened. However, some congestion remained around junction 1a.
Expected Duration of Delays
Authorities initially estimated that the delays would continue until around 2:30 pm today. Motorists were advised to remain patient and check for updates before setting off on their journeys.
The cause of the crash has not yet been disclosed, and there are no reports of injuries.
