A witness has spoken of their frustration after police failed to attend following a disturbing catapult attack on a duck at england/danson-park/”>park/”>Danson Park.
The incident happened on Friday 15 August, when a group of youths were seen firing catapults near lake-wales/”>lake/”>the lake. The witness, who was some distance away, reported hearing the impact of a shot and watching as a duck swam away sounding injured.
“I called the police who never turned up,” the witness said. “The youths had several catapults between them and were also on bikes, so they could easily get away. I was hoping to act as a witness and finally see someone caught and made an example of for this horrific crime — but the police never showed.”
According to the report, park security did approach the group, but the witness claims staff “didn’t seem that interested” and the youths left shortly afterwards.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the call was logged under reference CAD 4020/15Aug25. A text message sent to the caller stated:
“We aim to arrive within 60 minutes. We prioritise all calls in this area and in some circumstances this may mean a delayed response time.”
However, no officers attended before the youths dispersed.
Animal welfare concerns have been raised, with the witness warning that the group may have gone on to harm other wildlife in The Parkthe park.
