A man who preyed on young teens has been incarcerated for multiple sexual crimes.

Sol Barrett deceived one of the young victims he had previously assaulted by taking her to his Crawley home instead of a medical facility.

Additionally, he manipulated another minor on social media, misrepresenting his age to commit illicit acts.

Upon facing Lewes Crown Court on August 7, the 24-year-old confessed to his crimes and was sentenced to 11 years and eight months in prison.

The court heard how Barrett, who previously worked as a retail sales assistant in Broadfield, Crawley, came across a teenager on June 17, 2022, who had been involved in a separate incident. Unfamiliar with Barrett, she found herself at his residence the next day. Due to the assault from the prior night, she needed medical attention. Yet, instead of aiding her, Barrett abused her trust.

In another episode on December 18, 2022, concerns arose when a mother discovered that Barrett was attempting to manipulate her teenage daughter on Snapchat, where he falsely presented his age. The subsequent investigation led to his arrest and charges involving sexual engagement with a minor aged between 13 to 15.

Considering the gravity of his actions, the court dictated Barrett serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before any potential release. His prison terms for the different charges will run consecutively, and he will be under supervised release for 14 years.

Additionally, Barrett must register as a sex offender indefinitely and adhere to a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Post-trial, Detective Sergeant Ellen Jones acknowledged the victims’ bravery in coming forward. She emphasized the importance of the support they received from trained professionals. The officer remarked on Barrett’s predatory behaviour, highlighting that the compelling evidence left him with no option but to admit guilt. Sergeant Jones further expressed the police’s commitment to seeking justice and safeguarding the community from threats.
