Tennis enthusiasts in Dover can once again enjoy the courts at Connaught Park, as Dover District Council (DDC) and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) officially reopen the newly refurbished facilities on Saturday, 19 April.
Two courts at the popular park have undergone a comprehensive upgrade as part of a nationwide programme funded by the UK Government and the LTA Tennis Foundation. The £57,800 project included a full resurfacing, new nets, improved fencing, and permanent court markings, bringing the courts up to a modern and professional standard.
The courts now also feature an access-controlled gate and online booking system, designed to streamline court reservations, reduce wait times during peak periods, and ensure consistent upkeep.
David Parish, Head of Property Assets at DDC, said:

The refurbishment of the courts at Connaught will offer a great opportunity for local residents of all ages to enjoy tennis in a beautiful park setting and improve their health while having fun.”
Management of the Connaught Park courts will be overseen by the Deal and Dover Park Tennis Community Interest Company (CIC) – formerly the Marke Wood Tennis Hub – which also manages the Marke Wood Tennis Courts. The CIC will work with the LTA to deliver a variety of tennis activities to the community, including free weekly park sessions for players of all ages and skill levels starting in July. Equipment will be provided during these sessions.

“We are delighted to have worked with Dover District Council to improve their park tennis facilities and provide more opportunities for anyone to pick up a racket and get active. This investment… will mean that courts will be available for people to use for years to come.”
For regular players, an annual season ticket is available for £40, offering year-round access to courts for a family of four. The ticket also grants access to the Marke Wood courts, allowing for flexible play across both venues.
