Residents in Orpington are being urged to come together next month in a powerful show of unity against the escalating violence inflicted on local wildlife.
An awareness event titled “Make a Stand for Orpington’s Wildlife” will take place on Sunday, April 6th at 1:30 PM, following a series of disturbing incidents in Priory Gardens, where animals have reportedly been maimed or killed by individuals armed with catapults.
Campaigners say the beloved green space has become a hotspot for wildlife crime, with brutal attacks occurring multiple times a week. Victims have included ducks, geese, squirrels, foxes, and pigeons — many found with shattered limbs, deep wounds, missing eyes, or left to die in agony.
Organisers warn that the issue extends beyond wildlife, with pets, vehicles, homes, and even people being targeted in the local area.
“This violence must stop,” said organisers. “We’re calling on the community to stand together and demand urgent action from local authorities. Too many innocent animals are suffering needlessly — and without intervention, it will only get worse.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring signs, distribute leaflets, speak with fellow residents, and help raise awareness about the issue. The event aims to pressure authorities to improve surveillance, enforce laws, and protect local green spaces from further harm.
The message is clear: wildlife crime has no place in Orpington, and the community is ready to speak out.
