A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Tyler Hayward, 26, in Chingford, following a major police operation in Kent this evening.
The suspect was detained at the Port of Dover as part of the Metropolitan Police’s murder investigation, which was launched after officers were called to Chingford Mount Road at 9:14pm on Sunday, 6 July. Tyler was found with a stab wound and, despite the efforts of emergency services, died at the scene.
Family Statement
In a heartfelt tribute, Tyler’s family said:
“We are struggling with the tragic loss of Tyler, a beautiful soul with the kindest of hearts. A much loved son, grandson and brother, that will be missed immensely. We would appreciate privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with our loss.”
Police Operation and Investigation
Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, is leading the investigation and confirmed the arrest followed extensive enquiries over the past two days.
“The thoughts of the investigation team remain with Tyler’s family and our specially trained officers continue to support them at this difficult time,” said DCI Woodsford.
“Searches were carried out at the Port of Dover today, which led to the arrest. I’d like to thank Kent Police and other partner agencies** for their support, as well as the public who were disrupted during this vital work.”
The suspect remains in custody as detectives continue to question him.

Police are still appealing to anyone who may have seen the incident or who has CCTV, dashcam or phone footage from around Chingford Mount Road on Sunday evening.
