A car drove into a crowd of Christmas market visitors in Magdeburg, Germany, on Friday, leaving at least one person dead and numerous others injured, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred at the city’s popular market, located approximately 150 kilometers southwest of Berlin. A spokesperson for Magdeburg, Michael Reif, told local broadcaster MDR that the attack appeared deliberate.
The initial assessment is that there was an attack on the Christmas market,” Reif said. “There are numerous casualties. The fire brigade and police are on the scene and are treating the injured.

Police have confirmed that the suspected driver has been arrested, though it remains unclear whether the individual acted alone. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
