A house fire in Dagenham has led to the discovery of a suspected cannabis farm, with police still working to trace the individuals responsible.
The blaze broke out at a terraced property on Comyns Road around 5:15pm on Sunday, 25 May. Four fire engines and 25 firefighters were deployed to tackle the flames, which caused significant damage to the ground floor and a small section of the first floor.
The fire was brought under control by 6:41pm, according to London Fire Brigade (LFB).
Cannabis Plants Seized by Police
Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters alerted the Metropolitan Police, who attended the scene and seized a number of cannabis plants from inside the property. Aerial images of the scene, captured by Yedis Drone Shots, show the extent of the damage from above.
A Met Police spokesperson confirmed:
“On Sunday, 25 May at 17:27hrs the Met was alerted by the London Fire Brigade to a fire on Comyns Road, Dagenham. After the fire was contained, officers seized a number of cannabis plants. There were no reports of any injuries. No arrests have been made at this stage.”
Police have urged anyone with information about the fire or the illegal grow operation to contact 101 quoting CAD 5567/25MAY.
Firefighters Respond Quickly
According to LFB, crews from Dagenham, Barking, and Greenwich were dispatched after receiving multiple 999 calls. They arrived swiftly and brought the situation under control in approximately 90 minutes.
A spokesperson said:
“Most of the ground floor and a small part of the first floor were damaged by the fire. There were no injuries reported.”
The cause of the fire has been officially recorded as “undetermined.”
Appeal for Public Help
As the owners of the property remain untraced, police are appealing for assistance from the public. It is not yet known whether the cannabis cultivation is linked to organised crime.
