Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 93-year-old woman at a property in Cherrill Gardens, Bude.
Police were called just after 1pm on Sunday, 29 June, following a concern for welfare report regarding the woman. Officers and paramedics attended the scene where the elderly woman was sadly pronounced dead.
Her next of kin have been informed, and formal identification is underway.
A 65-year-old man from the local area has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Police Statement
Detective Inspector Rob Smith, who is leading the investigation, said:
“We are currently carrying out enquiries to establish what happened in this very sad case.
“A cordon has been set up to allow for a thorough investigation of the scene. It is believed that the man and the woman were known to each other.
“This is being treated as an isolated incident and we are not seeking anyone else in connection to the death at this time.
He added that residents will see an increased police presence in the area in the coming days.

Police are appealing for anyone who:
- witnessed anything suspicious in the Cherrill Gardens area
- has CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist the investigation
- or who has any relevant information
to come forward.
