A major police response was launched in Brixton on Saturday night (28 June) after a large group of more than 200 people gathered at a venue on Coldharbour Lane, causing significant disruption.
Officers were called at 9.37pm to reports of disturbance and antisocial behaviour, prompting the enforcement of a Section 35 dispersal order, which gives police powers to order individuals to leave the area or face arrest.
Officers Assaulted During Dispersal
While dispersing the crowd, two Metropolitan Police officers were assaulted. They sustained minor injuries in the altercation.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
A 15-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of:
- Assaulting an emergency worker
- Committing a public order offence
- Breaching the dispersal order
Both individuals remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Dispersal Order in Effect Overnight
The dispersal order remained active until 07:00hrs on Sunday, 29 June, allowing officers to control the situation and restore calm to the area.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed:
The safety of the public and our officers is our priority. We took necessary action to prevent further escalation and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
