A British Airways flight was forced to divert and make an emergency landing in Boston today after suffering severe engine vibrations caused by a bird strike.
Flight BA216, which had departed from Washington D.C. and was en route to London Heathrow, reported issues mid-flight and requested an emergency diversion.
The aircraft landed safely at Boston Logan International Airport, where it was met by emergency crews who escorted it to the stand for inspection. Passengers remained calm throughout the incident, and no injuries have been reported.
A source for British Airways said:
“The safety of our customers and crew is always our highest priority. Flight BA216 diverted to Boston as a precaution due to a technical issue. The aircraft landed normally, and we are arranging onward travel for customers.
Live flight tracking from AirNav Radar showed the flight’s diversion path and safe arrival. Aviation authorities are now conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft to assess any damage caused by the strike.
Bird strikes are a known risk in aviation, particularly during takeoff and landing, but commercial aircraft are designed to withstand such events, and pilots are trained extensively to handle related emergencies.
Passengers have been offered refreshments and accommodation where needed as they await new travel arrangements.
