A teenager has been taken to hospital following a brutal fight involving knives, machetes, and an axe in Pennyfields Park, Poplar, on Wednesday evening.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 5.46pm on 26 March after reports of a stabbing amid violent scenes involving four men. The attack, described by witnesses as “terrifying,” unfolded in broad daylight in the Tower Hamlets neighbourhood.
The London Ambulance Service confirmed the swift response:
“We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
The first paramedic arrived in under five minutes. We treated one patient and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
The Metropolitan Police also issued a statement:
“At 17:45hrs, police were called to Pennyfields Park, Poplar, following reports of a stabbing. Officers attended alongside LAS and found a boy with stab wounds.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where his injuries were later confirmed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.”
At this early stage, no arrests have been made. Detectives from Tower Hamlets are pursuing urgent lines of enquiry and reviewing local CCTV.
The attack has reignited concerns over violent crime in the area. Social media posts and local commentators described Pennyfields Park as a “lawless” zone, with some drawing comparisons to past remarks labelling the borough a “no-go area.”
Police are urging the public to come forward with any information. Witnesses or anyone with relevant footage is asked to contact 101, quoting CAD 6073/26March, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
