Residents in Bounds Green, North London, have raised serious safety concerns after thousands of nails were reportedly scattered across local roads, causing potential danger to motorists and cyclists.
A concerned resident took to social media this morning, posting a photo of dozens of nails collected using a magnet and warning that they saw as many as 5,000 nails while commuting to work.
“Hey just wanted to inform you all about someone scattering nails on roads,” the user wrote. “I used a magnet to collect almost all of them on my road, but this is definitely not all. I saw about 5,000 this morning.”
The post, which appeared in a local Bounds Green Facebook group, has prompted calls for swift action, with residents urging others to check tyres and avoid certain routes until the roads are cleared.
The motive behind the act is currently unknown, but such deliberate placement of nails on public highways is considered criminal damage and poses a serious threat to public safety.
Local authorities and Metropolitan Police have not yet issued an official statement. However, if you spot similar hazards or have dashcam or CCTV footage, you’re urged to report it immediately via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
