A body has been recovered from the River Thames near Sunbury earlier today, following a large-scale search operation that began on 11 October. The search involved Surrey Police, Surrey Search and Rescue, Berkshire Search and Rescue, and Kent Search and Rescue teams.
The search efforts commenced after emergency services were alerted at approximately 8.50 am on 11 October, reporting that six adults had entered the water near Wheatleys Eyot. While five individuals were safely rescued, one man, believed to be in his 60s, remained unaccounted for.

Earlier today, specialist search teams discovered a man’s body near Sunbury Weir. Although formal identification is yet to take place, the family of the missing man has been informed and is being supported by a specialist officer.
Surrey Police have stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the man’s death, but it is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
Chief Inspector Andy Jenkins, of North Surrey Police, commented: “Throughout this tragic incident, we have been in close contact with the man’s family to offer them support and information during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts remain with them, and we ask that their privacy is respected while they come to terms with their loss.
