BMW, the premium car manufacturer, is set to become the title partner of the Australian PGA Championship, one of Australian golf’s premier events. Starting from the upcoming DP World Tour season, this partnership marks BMW’s commitment to excellent professional golf events on an additional continent.
The BMW Australian PGA Championship will be the third BMW tournament on the DP World Tour, joining the 35th BMW International Open in Munich and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth near London. Additionally, BMW holds the title partnership for the PGA TOUR’s playoff tournament – the BMW Championship – in the USA and the BMW Ladies Championship on the LPGA Tour in South Korea.
Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane will host the BMW Australian PGA Championship from 21st to 24th November this year. Notably, this venue will also serve as the host for the 2032 Olympic Games golf competition. The tournament promises to be a highlight on the Australian sporting calendar and will kick off the 2024/25 DP World Tour season. Defending champion Min Woo Lee of Australia has already confirmed his participation.
Wolfgang Buechel, CEO of BMW Australia, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “BMW has been deeply involved in golf worldwide for over 40 years, and we are thrilled to extend our commitment to the prestigious Australian PGA Championship. From the US to Europe, Asia, and now Australasia, BMW is present wherever golf is played and enjoyed across major markets worldwide. This major golf naming rights partnership in the Southern Hemisphere builds on our existing relationship as the official automotive partner of the PGA, Golf Australia, and the WPGA.”
Thanks to a co-sanctioning agreement between the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia and the DP World Tour, this year’s BMW Australian PGA Championship will feature a world-class field. Australian professionals will compete against an international contingent of contenders.
Gavin Kirkman, PGA of Australia CEO, welcomed BMW’s involvement: “We are delighted to have BMW as the naming rights partner for the Australian PGA Championship. Their longstanding influence on Australian golf and our PGA Championship has been remarkable, and this partnership takes their commitment to the next level. BMW’s dedication to excellence and innovation aligns perfectly with our values, and we are confident that this collaboration will contribute to the continued success and growth of the championship.”
Beyond the naming rights partnership, BMW remains committed to supporting the future of Australian professional golf. The company currently has partnerships with LPGA Tour star Grace Kim and DP World Tour player Elvis Smylie.
