A devastating fire broke out at a block of flats on Amber Way, Hammersmith, this evening, tragically resulting in the deaths of two cats that were trapped inside. The blaze, which prompted around 20 emergency calls to 999, started at approximately 5:48 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
The London Fire Brigade dispatched around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines to the scene. Crews from Acton, Chiswick, Kensington, North Kensington, Paddington, Ealing, and Chelsea fire stations worked to combat the intense flames that consumed part of a three-room flat on the fifth floor of the seven-storey building. The fire was brought under control by 6:43 p.m.
In a statement, the London Fire Brigade said: “It was a very visible fire with 20 999 calls made to the Brigade’s Control centre alerting them to the fire. Part of a three-room flat on the fifth floor in the seven-storey block of flats was destroyed by fire. Sadly, two cats died at the scene. Thankfully, no further injuries are reported.”
The swift response from the fire crews ensured that no people were injured in the incident. However, the loss of the cats has left the building’s residents and the community saddened. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine what sparked the blaze.
Residents and witnesses are urged to stay alert for updates and cooperate with ongoing investigations as more information becomes available.
