A 30-year-old man from Birmingham has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after a violent aggravated burglary in Rugby that left a homeowner with multiple injuries.
Amandeep Kang, of Wattville Road, Birmingham, was sentenced today following his conviction for aggravated burglary and wounding with intent. He received 12 years’ imprisonment for aggravated burglary, and 8 years for wounding with intent, to run concurrently.
Terrifying Ordeal in Early Morning Break-In
The incident occurred in the early hours of July 30, 2024, when Kang broke into a house on Chestnut Road, Rugby, armed with a knife. He demanded gold from the occupant, before physically assaulting him and forcing him to open a safe.
The victim sustained multiple injuries to his face, hands, and knees, which required hospital treatment.
Motive Linked to Family Dispute
According to police, the motive behind the violent intrusion is believed to have stemmed from a family dispute, though officers stressed this offered no justification for Kang’s actions.
Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery
Detective Constable Jamie Russell, who led the investigation, said:
“This was a terrifying experience for the victim, who was repeatedly threatened and subjected to a sustained assault by Kang.”
“The motive for the offences appeared to have stemmed from a family dispute, but this was in no way a mitigation for his behaviour. I hope this sentence will enable the victim to gain some closure, while Kang faces justice for his actions.”
Justice Served
The sentencing brings closure to a harrowing case of violent crime, and officers praised the victim for their courage in supporting the investigation.
Kang will now serve his sentence behind bars, with the court making it clear that such violent acts will not be tolerated.
