Detectives are appealing for information after a burglary in Bickley Road saw more than £500,000 worth of gold jewellery stolen in a targeted residential raid.
The break-in occurred between 5:40pm and 6:25pm on Monday, 30 December 2024, when three men gained access to the home by forcing open a bathroom window. Shockingly, the family were inside the property at the time of the theft, though no injuries were reported.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s South Area Command Unit have released images of several stolen items in the hope that members of the public can help trace them. Many of the pieces are described as unique and sentimental, having been passed down through generations of the family.
“While the monetary value of this theft is enormous, the sentimental value is priceless,” said Detective Constable Jamie White, who is leading the investigation. “Helpfully, a number of the pieces stolen are unique, so we are hoping that releasing these photographs will jog someone’s memory.”
Stolen While the Family Were Inside
Investigators believe the suspects were in the property for just under an hour, deliberately targeting valuables. CCTV footage confirms the men arrived and fled the scene within the tight timeframe. It is not yet known if a getaway vehicle was used or whether the property had been surveilled in advance.
Police have not confirmed whether the suspects interacted with the homeowners during the incident, but detectives say the burglary has left the family “deeply distressed.”
Police Seeking Public’s Help
The Metropolitan Police are urging anyone who may have seen the stolen items online, in shops, or on individuals, to come forward.
“If you have seen these items anywhere – or know of anyone handling the goods – please do get in touch with the Met via 101, quoting reference 01/1257889/24,” DC White added.
