The BBC has announced the acquisition of the highly anticipated drama series “Interview with the Vampire,” originally based on Anne Rice’s bestselling novel. The seven-part series will air on BBC Two and be available on BBC iPlayer, bringing this thrilling tale to a wide audience.
Starring in this captivating series are Jacob Anderson, known for his roles in “Game of Thrones,” “Doctor Who,” and “Broadchurch,” Sam Reid from “The Newsreader,” “Prime Suspect 1973,” and “Lambs of God,” Bailey Bass featured in “Avatar: Way of Water,” Eric Bogosian from “Succession,” “Billions,” and “Uncut Gems,” and Assad Zaman from “Hotel Portofino.”
“Interview with the Vampire” unfolds the epic story of Louis de Pointe du Lac (played by Jacob Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (played by Sam Reid), and Claudia (played by Bailey Bass). Their journey is one of love, blood, and the consequences of immortality, narrated to journalist Daniel Molloy (played by Eric Bogosian).
Set in the backdrop of 1900s New Orleans, the series explores Louis’s struggles as a Black man and his irresistible temptation to escape the limitations of life by accepting Lestat’s offer to become his vampire companion. However, the newfound powers come with a steep price, and the arrival of Lestat’s latest fledgling, Claudia, sets them on a path of revenge and redemption spanning decades.
Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, expressed her excitement about the series, calling it “sumptuous, sensual, complex, and disturbing.” She praised the lead performances of Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid, highlighting that the show remains faithful to the gothic spirit of Anne Rice’s beloved novels while reimagining it for a new generation of viewers.
“Interview with the Vampire” (consisting of seven 60-minute episodes) was acquired by the BBC from AMC Networks. The series boasts a strong lineup of executive producers, including co-creator, showrunner, and writer Rolin Jones (“Perry Mason,” “Friday Night Lights”), Mark Johnson (“Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul,” “Halt and Catch Fire,” “Rectify”), and Alan Taylor (“The Sopranos,” “Mad Men,” “Game of Thrones”). Co-executive producer Mark McNair also played a vital role in the series’ production. The show was directed by a talented team, including Alan Taylor, Keith Powell, Levan Akin, and Alexis Ostrangder.
