The BBC has secured the rights to the new French action drama, “Dark Hearts,” from Newen Connect, adding the six-part series to its lineup on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer. Starring Marie Dompnier (“Witnesses”), Thierry Godard (“Spiral”), and Nicolas Duvauchelle (“Braquo”), the series is set against the backdrop of Iraq on the eve of the battle for Mosul in October 2016.
“Dark Hearts” revolves around an elite French Special Forces unit with a high-stakes mission: to extract the daughter and grandchildren of a high-ranking ISIS leader. The goal is to obtain crucial information from the leader about an impending terrorist threat in the region. Directed by Academy Award nominee Ziad Doueiri (“The Insult”), the series promises to deliver a captivating blend of action drama and espionage thriller.
Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, “Not only is Dark Hearts a gripping mix of action drama and espionage thriller, it also gives a fascinating insight into the lives of a close-knit elite military unit who know that every mission could be their last.”
Leona Connell, Chief Commercial Officer at Newen Connect, highlighted the continuation of their relationship with the BBC, following the success of previous shows like “The Promise.” She expressed pleasure in bringing “Dark Hearts” to UK audiences as the series makes its international broadcast debut.
The six part series was created and written by Dang Thai Duong and Corinne Garfin (“The Bureau”) and produced by Gilles de Verdiere of Mandarin Productions. Set to deliver a unique perspective on elite military operations and the intense realities faced by Special Forces units, “Dark Hearts” adds an intriguing international flair to the BBC’s programming lineup.
