Divers have successfully recovered the body of Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, marking a sombre milestone in the aftermath of the tragic Baltimore bridge collapse. The incident occurred when a cargo ship collided with the support of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26.
Mr. Suazo-Sandoval, a 38-year-old construction worker, was one of six individuals believed to have lost their lives in the disaster. His remains were discovered at the site of the collapse at approximately 10:30 local time on Friday. Maryland State Police were promptly notified, and the family has been informed of this heartbreaking development.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed a mix of relief and empathy, stating, “While I take solace in knowing this brings us one step closer to closure, my heart continues to be with all the families still waiting anxiously for their loved ones. I am grateful for the first responders who have maintained focus on recovering the remaining victims and continued their work to clear the channel with the utmost care.”
The tragedy also claimed the lives of two other workers. Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, a 35-year-old Mexican, and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, a 26-year-old from Guatemala, were recovered from a submerged vehicle in the water on March 27.
President Joe Biden personally visited the collapse site by air on Friday, receiving briefings from both the US Coast Guard and the Army
