In a shocking incident, an attacker armed with a crossbow targeted a police officer guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. The assailant fired an arrow at the officer, hitting him in the neck, before being shot and killed by the officer.
The Incident
According to Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, the attacker repeatedly approached the guardhouse, asking for the location of a museum. Suddenly, he pulled out the crossbow and fired at the officer. In response, the wounded officer managed to fire several shots at the assailant, ultimately leading to the attacker’s demise.
Investigation and Motives
Authorities are still determining the identity of the attacker. Dacic labelled the incident a “terrorist attack against Serbia,” emphasising the need to explore possible motives. A person was arrested near the scene, and police are investigating potential ties to foreign terrorist groups. Notably, there are indications that the individuals involved may already be known to security services.
Officer’s Condition
The injured officer was conscious when transported to Belgrade’s main hospital. He underwent surgery to remove the arrow from his neck and is currently in stable condition.
