A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent after a devastating blaze engulfed and destroyed a property in Catford early on Sunday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after the London Fire Brigade (LFB) received reports of a fire shortly before 6 a.m.
Multiple fire engines and crews battled the flames as the inferno tore through the lower ground floor of the property on Stansted Road.
Police, paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, and officers from the Metropolitan Police also attended.
Authorities confirmed that a man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident. His identity has not yet been disclosed.
Due to the severity of the fire, Stansted Road at the junction of Faversham Road remains closed in both directions, causing significant disruption in the area. Firefighters are still working to contain the blaze, and a major investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
A police scene and fire cordon is in place as forensic teams assess the damage and collect evidence. The extent of injuries, if any, has not yet been confirmed.
We have reached out to the London Fire Brigade, Metropolitan Police, and London Ambulance Service for further details.
