In a significant move for Arsenal Women’s Football Club, forward Katie McCabe has inked a new contract, solidifying her commitment to the Gunners. Since her arrival in 2015, the Republic of Ireland captain has left an indelible mark, making 193 appearances.
The 2022-23 season showcased McCabe’s prowess, with 38 appearances across competitions and a crowning moment as Arsenal’s Player of the Season. Her exceptional goal against Manchester City secured the WSL Goal of the Season, and she earned a spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Team of the Season.
McCabe’s contributions extended beyond club football as she represented the Republic of Ireland in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, scoring against Canada in the group stage. This stellar year culminated in a Ballon d’Or nomination.
Expressing her commitment, McCabe stated, “Arsenal is home for me, and I’m excited to have committed my future to this football club.”
Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall expressed his delight, emphasising McCabe’s impact on and off the pitch. “She has been one of the top performers in world football… her quality and character are integral to what we do here,” said Eidevall.
In other football news, Tottenham’s summer signing, Dutch defender Micky Van de Ven, aspires to emulate the success of compatriot Virgil van Dijk in the Premier League. Van de Ven, 22, aims to form a formidable partnership with Christian Romero at the heart of the Spurs defense.
Comparing his playing style with Romero, Van de Ven highlighted the complementarity of their skills. “Cuti is just an amazing player, and I know when I run in one direction, he is in my back because he is always there,” he explained. The Dutch defender sees this partnership as a blend of his calm approach and Romero’s aggressiveness.
As Tottenham prepares to face Liverpool, Van de Ven expressed confidence: “We are going to play our own way and play like we want to play. We don’t have fear for Liverpool.”
The football world eagerly awaits to witness these talents in action, as McCabe extends her Arsenal journey, and Van de Ven aims to follow in the footsteps of defensive greatness in the Premier League.
