Detectives have made an arrest in the murder investigation following the tragic stabbing of a woman in Edgware, which occurred earlier today. A 22-year-old man was apprehended this afternoon in the Colindale area and is currently being held at a north London police station on suspicion of murder.
The incident took place around 11:50am on Thursday, May 9th, near the junction of Limesdale Gardens on Burnt Oak Broadway. Responding to the reports of a stabbing, officers from the London Police, along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, arrived swiftly at the scene. Despite the extensive efforts of the emergency services, the woman believed to be in her 60s, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the location.
Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis, from the North West Command Unit, emphasized the early stage of the investigation and cautioned against speculation regarding the circumstances of the incident. This is a significant development in this investigation and comes as a result of fast-time work from specialist detectives working alongside local officers,” he stated. Bellis further expressed his condolences, noting, “A family has been left devastated by this shocking attack and my thoughts are with them at this unimaginably difficult time.”
A crime scene remains active at the location as investigations continue under the guidance of homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. Authorities are diligently working to notify the victim’s next of kin and to uncover the motive behind the attack, including any prior acquaintance between the victim and the assailant.
