A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder following the discovery of a woman found unconscious in Brantham, Suffolk. Anita Rose, 57, was found lying on a track near the River Stour estuary early Wednesday morning by a passerby.
The incident occurred around 6.25am on Wednesday. Ms. Rose was quickly transported to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where she remains in a critical condition with a serious head injury.
On Saturday, Suffolk Police apprehended a 45-year-old man from the Ipswich area in connection with the attack. He is currently being held at the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre. According to the police, there is no evidence to suggest that the suspect was acquainted with the victim.
Ms. Rose, who had left her home at approximately 05:00 to walk her Springer Spaniel named Bruce, was found on a secluded track off Rectory Lane near the railway line and close to the local sewage works.
Detective Inspector Mike Brown of the Suffolk Police stated, “We are still looking to establish the exact circumstances leading to this incident, but our initial inquiries are underway, and these will continue over the weekend. This is a fast-moving investigation, and we are appealing to the local community for any further information which may aid this investigation, though we ask that no speculation be made on social media regarding this investigation.
Authorities are also searching for Ms. Rose’s distinctive pink jacket and her mobile phone, both of which were reported missing. The police have deployed specially trained officers to support Ms. Rose’s family during this challenging time.
The Suffolk Police are urging anyone with information, particularly those who were in the vicinity of Rectory Lane on Wednesday morning, to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
