An investigation is underway, and an arrest has been made following an assault in Southend in the early hours of Sunday, 15 September.
Essex Police responded swiftly to reports of an altercation on Southchurch Road shortly after 12:15am. Officers arrived on the scene within ten minutes and found that a group of individuals had been involved in a fight, with several weapons reportedly seen.
One man, a 32-year-old from Coventry, sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing. The man has since been arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in custody for questioning.
Specialist officers from the Serious Crime Directorate are leading the investigation, and police patrols around Southend have been increased to provide reassurance to the community. A visible police presence will continue throughout the day and in the coming days as officers conduct further enquiries.
Chief Inspector Paul Hogben commented on the incident: “I would ask anyone who may have information about this incident, or concerns, to please get in touch with us as soon as possible. We take incidents of this nature very seriously, and the Southend community can expect a robust response and thorough investigation.
