A police officer was seriously injured yesterday after being struck by a fleeing vehicle during a police operation in Glasgow. The incident occurred as officers attempted to engage the occupants of an Audi S3, which then sped away, colliding with the officer before escaping the scene.
The injured officer, a 33-year-old man, was quickly transported to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he is being treated for severe injuries. Authorities have confirmed that while his injuries are serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening. A second officer who was present at the scene escaped without injury.
Following the collision, the Audi S3 left the area, prompting police to launch an extensive search operation to locate the vehicle and its occupants. An urgent appeal has been issued to the public for assistance in finding those responsible.
Detective Inspector Scott Robertson, who is leading the investigation, expressed deep concern for the injured officer, saying, “Our thoughts are very much with our colleague who has suffered serious injuries in this incident. His family has been notified, and we are providing support to them and the other officers who were at the scene.
DI Robertson emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no wider risk to the public. However, he urged anyone with information to come forward, particularly those who might have dash-cam footage of the incident.
I would ask any drivers with dash-cam footage to please check their recordings and contact us if they have captured anything relevant to this collision. Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1673 of 30 August.
The investigation is being handled by officers from Lanarkshire Division, in collaboration with specialist Road Policing colleagues. As the search for the vehicle and its occupants continues, police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their inquiries.
The incident has sparked concern within the community, with police reiterating their commitment to bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety of all officers and residents in the area. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
