An American Airlines flight from New York’s JFK Airport to New Delhi was forced to divert to Rome today after a bomb threat was reported mid-flight. The aircraft, Flight AA292, was escorted by Eurofighter Typhoon jets as a precautionary measure before making a safe landing at Rome–Fiumicino Airport.

The flight, carrying over 200 passengers and crew, departed JFK on Saturday evening and was cruising over European airspace when the threat was reported to authorities. Italian air traffic controllers quickly coordinated with military defense units, dispatching fighter jets to shadow the aircraft as it rerouted to Rome.

Safe Landing and Swift Response

Flight AA292 touched down safely at 9:45 AM local time, met by emergency services, police units, and bomb disposal squads. Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft and transported to a secure area within the terminal, while security teams initiated a thorough search of the plane and cargo.

An American Airlines spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, “Out of an abundance of caution, Flight AA292 was diverted to Rome following a potential security threat. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew disembarked without incident.”

Authorities at Rome–Fiumicino Airport are currently assessing the threat. Bomb disposal experts were seen conducting meticulous checks on the aircraft, including the cargo hold and passenger cabin.
