A dramatic evacuation unfolded today at Denver International Airport after American Airlines flight AA3023 was forced to evacuate passengers on the tarmac when its left main landing gear caught fire upon landing.
Fire on Main Landing Gear
Footage from the scene shows thick smoke and visible flames coming from the aircraft’s left main wheels shortly after it came to a stop on the runway. Emergency slides were deployed, and passengers could be seen fleeing the aircraft as firefighters rushed to extinguish the blaze.
The Boeing aircraft, operating as flight AA3023, had just landed in Denver when the fire was detected. Swift action by the flight crew ensured all passengers were evacuated within minutes.
Emergency Response
Airport fire crews responded immediately, bringing the fire under control. As of now, no injuries have been reported, though several passengers were assessed for minor smoke inhalation and panic-related symptoms.
American Airlines has issued a statement confirming the incident:
“We are aware of an issue involving flight 3023 after landing at Denver. All passengers were safely evacuated. We are cooperating with authorities and investigating the cause.”
FAA Investigation Underway
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary assessments suggest a possible brake or tire failure, but officials caution it is too early to determine the exact cause.
Flight AA3023 was scheduled from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Denver (DEN). The aircraft type involved has not been officially confirmed but is believed to be an Airbus A320 series.
