A reckless driver who hit speeds of 100mph before causing a devastating crash near Hassocks has been jailed.
Brandon Lee, 28, of Forest Close, Horsham, was sentenced to two years in prison after seriously injuring his female passenger in a high-speed smash in the early hours of 8 December 2023.
Lee failed to stop for police after speeding on the A23 near Pyecombe, then dangerously drove on the wrong side of the road down Clayton Hill on the A273, before losing control and ploughing into a phone box.
Emergency services found the Ford Fiesta wrecked and the passenger seriously hurt. The victim is now left with life-changing injuries.
Lee admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on 25 April. Along with his prison sentence, he was banned from driving for two years and eight months.
Speaking after sentencing, Sergeant Joe McGregor from the Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit said:
“Lee’s driving was reckless and dangerous. He is incredibly lucky not to have caused a fatality.
This collision has had a lasting impact on the victim, and this case serves as a stark reminder that speeding is one of the biggest causes of death and serious injury on our roads.
