Motorists are facing long delays on the A2 westbound in Kent this evening following a serious collision that has resulted in the full closure of the carriageway between the B255 Bean Interchange and Junction 2 of the M25.
The incident, which occurred earlier today, involved an overturned car—believed to be an electric vehicle—prompting safety concerns from Kent Fire and Rescue Service. As a result, all westbound lanes have been shut while emergency services attend the scene.
Kent Police, fire crews, ambulance teams, and National Highways traffic officers are currently managing the incident. The fire service requested a full closure due to the complexities of dealing with an electric vehicle collision, which may present additional hazards such as battery fires.
National Highways has advised road users to expect long delays of at least 30 minutes and to consider alternative routes where possible.
Diversion Information
Drivers heading London-bound are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol:
- Exit the A2 at the Bean Interchange (B255).
- Follow the B255 northbound to its junction with the A206.
- Rejoin the A2 at the Darenth Interchange (M25 Junction 2).
Motorists are urged to plan ahead, allow extra journey time, and consider delaying travel where possible.
