Heavy traffic plagued the A2 this morning (October 28) as commuters grappled with the aftermath of a car crashing into a building situated between Medway and Sittingbourne. Following the incident, a man was taken to the hospital and subsequently arrested after he collided with a suspected stolen car into a property located on the A2 High Street in Newington.
The incident, which involved a building at the junction with Church Lane, resulted in partial blockage of both directions on the critical A-road. This led to significant congestion on the approach to the accident from both directions, affecting travel between Rainham and Sittingbourne.
A man with non-life-threatening injuries was subsequently transported to the hospital while further inquiries were conducted at the scene. A spokesperson for Kent Police provided additional details, stating, “Those inquiries have established that a number of other vehicles in the area were reported to have been damaged prior to the collision, and the vehicle involved was reported to have been stolen shortly before the collision.
“The man in the hospital has been arrested in relation to the incident, and the investigation to establish the full circumstances is ongoing.”
Police managed to clear the incident from the road, and traffic conditions began returning to normal around 10:30 a.m.
