Last year, Hamdi Braiek assaulted a man in a town centre park, repeatedly stamping on his head as he lay unconscious.
The victim first encountered Braiek on Week Street on the evening of May 30, 2021, when he confronted him about offensive remarks he made about how a woman was dressed.
The argument became heated, and the victim was pursued into Brenchley Gardens, where Braiek tackled him to the ground. He punched him and put him in a chokehold.
Braiek then stamped on the victim’s head several times while he was unconscious. As onlookers shouted to raise the alarm, he eventually fled the scene.
The victim, in his 30s, was rushed to a London hospital with brain bleeds. He suffered serious injuries and was placed in an induced coma.
Braiek was apprehended on June 2 after a town centre PCSO recognised him as a person matching the suspect’s description.
An investigation connected him to three more assaults in town.
Two of these, against a man and a woman in Fremlin Walk, occurred on the same day as the assault in Brenchley Gardens.
Another victim reported being beaten on May 28 in Hart Street, near Braiek’s home.
Braiek was charged with attempted murder, and his case was heard at Maidstone Crown Court.
The 34-year-old was found not guilty but convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, which he previously admitted to. He also admitted to two counts of battery.
Braiek was sentenced to eight years and three months in prison on Monday, June 6, 2022.
He must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole.

Our investigation revealed that Braiek was also responsible for a number of other heinous acts of violence in Maidstone. He is an offender who has shown little or no remorse for his actions and has justified his heinous behaviour by blaming others.’ At the very least, today’s sentence ensures that Braiek no longer poses a threat to our communities.’
