On 7 September, it was reported that a quantity of money had been stolen from the home of a man in his 80s in Ash in a distraction burglary.
On the same day, a woman in Walderslade, Chatham reported she had paid around £900 for gardening work that was not completed.
Following an investigation by Kent Police’s Crime Squad, John Smith, 30 of Fairview Road, Sittingbourne, was charged on Thursday 14 September with burglary and fraud. He was also charged with malicious communications in relation to a number phone calls reportedly received by the victim in Walderslade.
Mr Smith appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court the following day where he was remanded in custody. The case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 16 October.
