As the fifth anniversary of Carl Russell’s tragic murder approaches, Merseyside Police, in collaboration with Crimestoppers, is offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest, charge, and conviction of those responsible for his death. Carl, 27, was fatally shot on Cornwood Close in Belle Vale on October 7, 2018, as he and his girlfriend exited their car.
Despite significant efforts by law enforcement, including the arrest of three individuals connected to the incident, no one has been charged with Carl’s murder. Detectives are particularly eager to speak to a male on a pedal bike captured in CCTV footage, believing he may possess crucial information.
Gary Murray, North West Regional Manager at Crimestoppers, emphasised the charity’s commitment to maintaining 100% anonymity for those providing information. He urged potential witnesses to come forward, stating, “Your information could protect Liverpool from more harm and help the family and friends of Carl see justice.”
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Pye, leading the investigation, highlighted the significance of the £20,000 reward, hoping it serves as a strong incentive for individuals to share vital information. Pye expressed his continued interest in hearing from anyone with details about the murder, acknowledging that some may prefer to remain anonymous through Crimestoppers.
The plea for information coincides with heartbreaking tributes from Carl’s family. His mother, Marie, recalled the devastating day when her “whole world fell apart,” emphasising the ongoing trauma and pain. Carl’s sister, Rebecca, shared the profound impact on the family’s life, noting the loss of love and enjoyment. His brothers, Wesley and Chris, echoed the family’s quest for justice, expressing the difficulty of dealing with Carl’s untimely death.
Detective Chief Inspector Pye reassured Carl’s family that Merseyside Police remains dedicated to pursuing justice. He urged anyone with information to come forward urgently, emphasising the commitment to resolving the case.
Individuals who witnessed the incident, were in the area at the time, or have information are urged to contact Merseyside Police via 101 or through social media platforms. Alternatively, those seeking anonymity can provide information to Crimestoppers online or by calling the charity’s UK Contact Centre at 0800 555 111. The £20,000 reward underscores the community’s determination to bring closure to Carl Russell’s family and friends.
