Police have arrested two men after a drone was spotted flying over HMP Long Lartin in South Littleton, Worcestershire late on Monday night (18 August).

The drone is reported to have dropped a package of suspected contraband into the high-security prison before flying away. Officers quickly launched an investigation and tracked a blue Seat Leon believed to be linked to the incident through the West Midlands.

The car was intercepted at Stafford services on the M6, where officers arrested two men in their 20s on suspicion of conspiring to smuggle prohibited items into prison.

A drone and the vehicle were both seized for forensic examination, along with the package that was recovered inside the prison grounds.

A police spokesperson confirmed:

“Two men remain in custody as enquiries continue. We are working with prison staff to ensure all evidence is secured and no further contraband is introduced.”

The incident comes amid growing concerns about drones being used to deliver drugs, phones and weapons to inmates at UK prisons.
