Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon is not known for his restraint, so it came as a surprise this morning when he appeared on the ITV sofa with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary and dropped a swear word during the live broadcast.

The 66-year-old rocker was on the show to discuss the new Sex Pistols biopic series, which John reportedly dislikes. I love Lydon for what he does and I don’t want him to like it,” Danny Boyle, who directed the series, said in a comment read out by Alison.

Despite the fact that it was early in the morning, Lydon leant forward and said, “You ar**hole,” to which Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond looked shocked and quickly apologised. “Sorry about that,” Alison said, while Dermot sighed exasperatedly and apologised for the language.

However, Twitter users were unconcerned, with one user, @Josneat, writing: Johnny was always going to swear! I believe he has been quite restrained!” And @Bluebazza58 agreed, saying, “Felt very edgy watching John Lydon on This Morning. I’m waiting for the unavoidable expletive. Fortunately, only the word ‘a**hole’ was heard. I’m not sure how the sex pistol biopic can go ahead without his approval. He’s a one-of-a-kind.”

And @Underwulde123 tweeted: “John Lydon on This Morning at 11.15am talking about Disney’s new Sex Pistols biopic, which he obviously isn’t happy with Fruity language for morning tele.” John previously told The Mirror that he didn’t like the new TV show Pistol because it was “too sleazy.” It’s based on former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones’ memoir, which details his sex addiction.

Lydon said of the new series, “It’s upsetting because a lot of it has sexual connotations that are dubious at best.” They chose the wrong end of the spectrum in order to make a splash. “I believe the Pistols are of much higher quality than that.” “Cutting me out is a shockingly stupid move,” said the singer, who had no input into the making of the series about his notorious punk rock band. They can all go f*** themselves. Except for me, none of these f***s would have a job.”

“John complains we didn’t approach him,” Danny Boyle, who directed Pistol, responded. We did approach him, and I’d have loved to have him involved.”
