It comes after figures revealed that 290 tiny boats have crossed the English Channel this year.

More than 10,000 people have paid criminal gangs to cross the border since the beginning of the year.

Despite bad weather conditions for much of April and May, the number of people completing the journey is significantly higher than the same period last year.

198 people were rescued yesterday from four tiny boats off the coasts of Dover and Dungeness.

Each of the small improvised inflatables held about 50 people.

On Tuesday, 335 individuals aboard ten small boats attempted the perilous voyage.

Two boats had difficulties, and 86 passengers were rescued and returned to shore on the French side of the Channel.

After being picked up onboard the remaining eight small inflatables in UK seas, 249 individuals arrived in Dover.

They were taken to Dover for processing before being admitted to the UK asylum system.

So far this week, up to 500 people have crossed the English Channel after poor weather caused a short halt to people smuggling activities.

The Home Office stated on Tuesday that the first group of asylum seekers had been informed that they would be placed on a flight to Rwanda on June 14.

It comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced in April that the UK had reached an agreement with the Rwandan government to accept an unspecified number of asylum applicants.

As part of the agreement, the UK has committed to pay the Kigali government £120 million initially.

More money will be paid for each person deployed to help pay the costs of their housing and integration into Rwandan society.

Although the Home Secretary has stated that she is determined to guarantee that the first group of asylum seekers depart on June 14, the Home Office has stated that it anticipates a number of court challenges to be filed in an attempt to block the departure.
