A teenage boy has died after being hit by a train near Nottingham, police confirm. The victim, named Josh, was just 14 years old.

The heartbreak unfolded shortly after 7pm on Wednesday near the railway station in Burton Joyce, a village close to Nottingham. Emergency crews rushed to the scene but could not save Josh.

Floral tributes now cover a nearby railway crossing that links the village to the River Trent banks. One bouquet featured a poignant note: “Rest in peace Josh. You will be missed by many.” Another read, “Sending all our love to your family and friends. You will always be a bright star.”
Police and Officials Pay Tribute
Detectives are not treating the death as suspicious, though an inquest is expected. Local MP Michael Payne expressed deep sorrow, saying:
“My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and loved ones of the 14-year-old who lost their life. No family should ever have to endure such a devastating loss, and I know the whole community will share in their grief.”
He also thanked the first responders for their efforts and urged respect for the family’s privacy at this difficult time.
