A person has died following an incident on the tracks at Barnes railway station, leading to severe travel disruption on South Western Railway (SWR) services this morning.

Emergency Response and Investigation

  • Emergency services were called to Barnes station in Richmond at 7am after reports of a casualty on the tracks.
  • Paramedics attended but pronounced the person dead at the scene.
  • The British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
  • A file is being prepared for the coroner.

Travel Disruption

  • All lines between Clapham Junction and Hounslow, as well as Richmond, were initially shut down following the incident.
  • Some lines reopened just after 8am, but major disruptions are expected until 3pm as power to the running rails has been switched off.
  • Barnes station remains closed with no trains stopping at the station.
  • All lines towards Clapham Junction are blocked, but train services towards Richmond and Twickenham from Waterloo are running.

Official Statement

A British Transport Police spokesperson said:

“Officers were called to Barnes railway station at around 7am today (February 12) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
