Suspect Makes Daring Escape During Daylight Police Chase in North Finchley
A man was arrested after a tense and dramatic escape attempt on North Finchley High Road in broad daylight. The 32-year-old suspect fled a police vehicle stop, triggering a nail-biting chase along the busy high street.
Window-Shattering Arrest Attempt Sparks Public Spectacle
The drama unfolded just before midday on Tuesday, 2 September, when Metropolitan Police officers boxed in a car they signalled to stop. Footage captured online shows officers smashing the vehicle’s windows as the suspect climbed out and bolted.
The fleeing man darted through the crowded street, causing a scene that left bystanders stunned. One witness overheard exclaimed: “Oh, my God – wow. That’s not good.”
Suspect Caught and Charged with Class A Drugs Offence
The driver sustained minor injuries climbing out of the broken window but was finally caught. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply and remains in custody for questioning.
A female police officer involved also suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Road Blocks Lifted but Locals Left Shaken
Authorities briefly closed roads around the scene, but these have now reopened. The drama unfolded just 400 metres from the Arts Depot cultural venue, shocking locals in the normally peaceful area.
One onlooker said: “I was just grabbing some lunch and then saw how it all kicked off. There were lots of people in the street watching. I’ve worked here for a few years and have never seen anything like that.”
