Ukraine Refugee Stabbed to Death on North Carolina Train
A 23-year-old Ukrainian woman, who fled war-torn Ukraine for a fresh start in the US, was fatally stabbed aboard a North Carolina train. Iryna Zarutska was found with multiple stab wounds just before 10pm on August 22. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.
Suspect Arrested and Charged with Murder
The attacker, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown, suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the assault. He was treated at Atrium Health and then handed over to police. Brown now faces first-degree murder charges.
Records show Brown has a string of arrests, including past assault charges. Authorities believe he may be homeless.
