A 67-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape following a media appeal about a serious sexual offence in North West London.

The suspect was detained in Primrose Hill at approximately 5:30pm on Monday, 16 June, and remains in police custody.

The arrest is linked to an alleged attempted rape that took place on Wednesday, 11 June at a cinema on Finchley Road, NW3. Following a police appeal that included a CCTV image of a man officers wanted to identify, members of the public came forward, helping police swiftly locate the suspect.

Victim-Survivor Receiving Specialist Support

The victim, a woman in her 30s, continues to be supported by specially trained officers. The Metropolitan Police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of women and girls across the capital.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley, leading the investigation, said:
“Our thanks go to the public who worked quickly to share the appeal, leading to the arrest.
I know this incident will have caused concern for the local community, so I’d like to reassure Londoners that this investigation is progressing at pace.”

Community Reassurance Patrols Ongoing

In response to community concern, neighbourhood police officers continue to patrol the Finchley Road and Primrose Hill areas.

“Our commitment remains that women and girls in London should feel safe going about their daily lives,” DCI Ridley added. “If anyone has concerns, please speak to local officers—they are here to help.”
