Hundreds of electric buses in London are reportedly running out of battery mid-journey, leaving frustrated passengers stranded and disrupting services across the capital.

According to anonymous complaints posted by drivers on social media, the most effected route is the Route 358 this has been affected due to long routes, short resting times, and inadequate charging infrastructure.

Drivers Voice Frustrations

Several bus drivers have taken to online forums and social media to vent their frustrations about the poor planning and lack of charging facilities.

One driver wrote: “The schedules don’t allow enough time to recharge between shifts. I feel sorry for passengers who have to deal with delays or even get kicked off mid-route.

Another added: “They introduced these electric buses without making sure they can actually handle a full day’s work. Great planning!!”

Passengers Left Stranded

Commuters have also expressed their frustration as buses have been forced to stop unexpectedly, leading to missed appointments and lengthy waits for alternative transport.

One passenger shared on X (formerly Twitter): “My bus just stopped in the middle of the route because the battery ran out. Driver said there was nothing he could do. Ridiculous!”

Transport for London Responds

Transport for London (TfL) has acknowledged the issues and said they are working to improve the efficiency of the electric bus network.

A TfL spokesperson said: “We are aware of reports regarding battery performance on some of our electric buses and are working closely with operators to ensure sufficient charging is available throughout the day.

Calls for Better Infrastructure

Critics argue that the expansion of electric buses has outpaced the development of charging infrastructure, leading to operational failures.

An industry expert stated: “Without proper planning and investment in rapid charging facilities, these disruptions will continue. Electric buses are the future, but only if they are supported by the right infrastructure.”

What’s Next?

TfL has promised to review route lengths, charging schedules, and battery management strategies to reduce mid-journey failures.

For now, however, passengers and drivers alike are left dealing with the growing pains of London’s transition to electric public transport.
