Heathrow Tunnel Closure Causes Major Delays on M4 Spur Road
Overview
Motorists heading to Heathrow Airport are facing severe delays this morning after a technical fault forced the closure of the M4 Heathrow Spur Tunnel.
The closure affects the inbound carriageway towards Terminals 2 and 3, with heavy congestion reported on the M4 main carriageway at Junction 4 (Heathrow / Uxbridge) and back onto the A4 Bath Road.

Traffic is currently queueing along the Spur Road tunnel approach, with long tailbacks on connecting routes as emergency diversion measures are put in place. The tunnel closure has caused a ripple effect, impacting surrounding areas including Sipson, Harlington, and Hayes.

Diversions and Bus Disruptions
Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that a diversion is in operation, with affected vehicles being rerouted via surface routes around the airport perimeter.
Several bus routes are also experiencing major disruption, with services 105, 111, 278, 285, A10, SL7, SL9, and U3 being diverted or delayed.

Airport Passengers Urged to Allow Extra Time
Heathrow Airport has advised passengers travelling to Terminals 2 and 3 to allow extra time for their journey and to check for live updates.
No estimated reopening time has been provided as of yet.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible and seek alternative routes.
A Heathrow spokesperson said: “Due to a technical issue, the Central Terminal Area tunnel for Terminals 2 and 3 is currently closed. We are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologise for any disruption. Passengers are advised to use public transport and travel to Terminal 5, where they can access train services to all other terminals.”
