A major fire has erupted on the A2 eastbound in Kent, sparking chaos and forcing a full closure between the A227 Gravesend junction and M2 Junction 1 at Rochester. Follow the Solid Circle: Official Diversion Route

Coastbound drivers must follow diversion signs marked with a solid circle to dodge the closure.

  • Exit the A2 eastbound at Marling Cross junction (Gravesend East).
  • Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout, then 1st exit onto Valley Drive at the next junction.
  • Drive 2 miles along Valley Drive to the traffic light-controlled T-junction.
  • Turn right onto B261 Old Road East.
  • At the A226 roundabout, take the 4th exit eastbound towards Rochester.
  • Travel 3.5 miles through Higham to the A289/Gads Hill Interchange.
  • Non-motorway traffic: 2nd exit and then 1st exit to rejoin A2.
  • Motorway traffic: 2nd exits at two roundabouts to join A289 southbound, then keep left for M2 eastbound towards London/West Malling.
