A man has been arrested after armed police were called to Elm Park Underground station early this morning following reports of a firearm.

Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) responded to the call just after 7am on Wednesday, 19 June, and swiftly attended the scene.

A 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody. At this stage, no injuries have been reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.

A spokesperson for the BTP said:

“Officers were called just after 7am today (19 June) to Elm Park Underground station following reports of a man in possession of a firearm. Officers attended, and a 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody.”

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward. Passengers who were at the station or onboard nearby trains are especially encouraged to speak with officers.

Elm Park station, located on the District Line in East London, remained open following the arrest, though services were briefly disrupted during the police response.
