Witnesses Sought After Vandalism Leaves School Buses Unusable In Trowbridge

Police  in Trowbridge are appealing for witnesses following an appalling act of vandalism that left several school buses unusable. Over the weekend of October 7 and 8, seven minibuses parked at Silverwood School on Ashton Street were targeted, resulting in severe damage to their windscreens.

The repercussions of this mindless act are far-reaching, as the damaged vehicles are crucial for transporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to and from school. The safety risks posed by the damaged windscreens make it impossible to operate the buses, leaving the children and their parents facing significant disruptions to their daily routines.

Neighbourhood Sgt Charly Chilton expressed her dismay over the incident, stating, “This senseless act has meant that several vehicles which are vital for local children to get to and from school are now out of action. This has had a serious knock-on impact on the children who have had to adjust their normal routines, as well as their parents.”

The financial implications of repairing or replacing these buses are also a cause for concern. Some of the vehicles are specially adapted to accommodate children in wheelchairs or those with mobility issues. Repairing or replacing them would place an additional burden on the school’s budget, diverting resources from other crucial areas of education.

Law enforcement authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or knowledge of the perpetrators to come forward. Witnesses can contact the police by dialing 101 or visiting the police website. Alternatively, individuals can make an anonymous report through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
