Ryan Molloy, a 20-year-old from Stamford Close, Toothill, has been sentenced to five years in a young offenders institution for firearm offences. The sentencing took place at Swindon Crown Court on Wednesday, August 7, following Molloy’s conviction for possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

The case dates back to September 18, 2023, when police executed a warrant on a property on Edington Close in Swindon. During the operation, three men were seen fleeing the property, and shortly afterwards, a bag was discovered dumped in a neighbour’s garden. Inside the bag, officers found a firearm, which was later linked to Molloy through forensic analysis that identified his fingerprints on the weapon.

Molloy was sentenced to five years in a young offender’s institution and was also ordered to pay a £228 surcharge. The court confirmed that the firearm and accompanying cartridges would be destroyed.

Detective Constable Anna McCormack, who was involved in the case, emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “A bag containing a firearm was left in a residential garden where anyone could have found it. Such illegal firearms have no place in Swindon and Wiltshire. They often end up in the hands of organised criminals, who use them to inflict serious violence and instil fear.”

She added, “I am pleased to have removed one from our streets before it was used to fatally or seriously injure someone.
